Pickstock Telford Ltd, Meat Processing Plant

J-Ross Developments Ltd successfully secured detailed planning permission for a new 85,000 sqft meat processing facility at Hortonwood, Telford for Pickstock Telford Ltd.

J-Ross Developments were responsible for leading the development management process as well as the negotiation and acquisition of the site from the Homes and Communities Agency.

The design of the new facility was also managed in house by J-Ross Developments’ professional team.

J-Ross Developments continued to have involvement in the project management of the development through the construction phase and monitoring of the building contract through to completion, reporting on programme, quality and budget.

J-Ross Developments helped Pickstock Telford to improve its environmental performance and compliance with the environmental policy at the new facility. Everything was constructed with sustainability in mind, with heat exchange systems running off the refrigeration system and air compressors, along with a full rain water harvesting system. There is also future plans for the installation of an anaerobic digester.

The processing facility commenced operation in January 2014 and was officially opened by The Rt Hon Owen Paterson MP, Secretary for Environmental, Food and Rural Affairs on the 2nd of June.

The new plant represented a significant investment for Pickstock Telford. The new facility is the latest of its kind in the country and one of the only plants in Europe to have every process under its 85,000sq ft roof, from the lairage, to the meat processing facility, on‐site cold stores and despatch.

The new facility has many unique state of the art features, and everything has been especially designed to enhance Pickstock Telford’s efficient process. The new facility also incorporates a new boning and packing plant which will allow the company to provide a greater choice to its customers and will attract business from new markets, with a wider range of product cuts.
